Apple to Unveil Reality Pro: AR/VR Headset with Stunning Display

Apple is set to make an announcement on June 5th, which many believe to be the release of its highly anticipated AR/VR headset, reportedly named Reality Pro. According to CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Ross Young, the headset will feature two 1.41” micro OLEDs, offering a resolution of 4K per eye, which amounts to a 4,000 x 4,000 pixels display, and over 5,000 nits of brightness.

Impressive Display Specs of Reality Pro

To put these numbers into context, the Meta Quest Pro has a resolution of 1,800 x 1,920 per eye, while the PlayStation VR 2 has 2,000 x 2,040 pixels per eye. These specs would set the Reality Pro apart from any other headset currently on the market.

Perception of Brightness

As for the 5,000 nits of brightness being reported, it is important to note that the human eye perceives brightness differently, and there is an exponential relationship between the number of nits and the perceived brightness. One step up from 1,000 nits put display brightness at 2,000 nits, with the next increase being a jump to 4,000 nits, followed by 8,000 nits, and so on. Even with this adjustment, the Reality Pro displays will still be nearly three times brighter than a smartphone screen at peak brightness.

Professional Target Audience

The Reality Pro is expected to have a price tag of around $1,500, which may not be affordable for casual users but is likely to target professionals. These professionals could use the headset to develop a metaverse for future customers, who may purchase a non-Pro Reality headset with more modest specs at a more budget-friendly price point.

Final Thoughts:

Apple’s anticipated release of the Reality Pro headset shows that the company is continuing to invest in the AR/VR industry. With exceptional display specs and high levels of perceived brightness, this head-mounted device is poised to set the pace for other AR/VR headsets in the market. The device will be particularly attractive to professionals who can utilize it to provide the immersive experiences that consumers are demanding. The metaverse is becoming more popular, and Reality Pro could be the platform that expands its reach.
